MEDICAL
CODING - Available Online
Certificate Program
(Boston, Attleboro and Online)
There
are currently many job openings for certified medical coders
across the United States. Upon completion of the Medical Coding
Certificate Program at Fisher College, you will have a medical
knowledge base and specialized, marketable coding skills to
provide you with the competitive edge needed in today's fast-paced
health care industry. Once you gain some work experience,
you can expect great pay and benefits; and some facilities
offer a flexible work schedule as an additional "perk."
Upon successful completion of the Program, graduates
will be eligible to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
Exam administered by the American Health Information Management
Association (AHIMA) to earn CCA (entry-level coder) credentials.
After some work experience, graduates can sit for a more advanced
exam to earn credentials as a Certified Coding Specialist
(CCS) or, if working with ambulatory records, as a Certified
Coding Specialist, Physician-based (CCS-P). For more information
on credentialing exams, go to www.ahima.org/certification.
Fisher College's Medical Coding Certificate
Program requires a commitment to quality work and consistent
completion of assignments. Of note, students need to earn
a grade of "C" or better in all core courses within
the curriculum, including Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology,
Study of Disease, Medical Terminology, and Basic and Advanced
ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 Coding. Students will need to retake any
of these courses for which they earn less than a C. Also,
successful completion of an 30-hour professional practice
coding internship is required to graduate.
Credits in the Medical Coding Certificate Program
are applicable to the Associate in Science Degree Program
in Health Information Technology at Fisher College, and may
transfer to other related Associate and Baccalaureate Degree
Programs.
