CJ240 Deviance and Social Control

Prerequisite: SO101 or SO 105 or PS 101 or HS 101

This course examines deviant acts with the aim of understanding how society comes to define some behavior as deviant and how in turn society attempts to control such behavior. Topics covered include the types and theories of deviance, the social conditions and elements of deviant acts, and societyis mechanisms for preventing, controlling, and reforming deviant behavior
